Sweet and Tangy, a Fruit Smoothie with a Veggie twist: Pear, Cucumber, Kiwi, and Melon. Clean, fresh, sparkly: a healthy recipe that not only feels great, it tastes lovely.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 to 2 pears (I used frozen pear...see notes)
- 1 small to medium cucumber (only peel if skin is bitter)
- 2 kiwis
- 1 cup melon (I used frozen honeydew...see notes)
- 1 to 1 1/2 Cups water (or about 12 ice cubes)
- 1 TBS honey or agave ((sweeten to taste...fruit varies in sweetness))
- juice of one ripe lemon
Note
I used frozen pear slices and frozen honeydew cubes in this recipe (freezing is a great way to save surplus fruit). You could use fresh pears and melon in this recipe; just substitute ice cubes for the water to get that wonderful slushy freezy texture we all love in a smoothie. If you're feeling experimental, you could try about a teaspoon of minced fresh ginger in this recipe...
Directions
This is another one step recipe: Put all the ingredients in a Very Powerful Blender and blend til smooth (smoothies, by definition, should be smooth). You can enjoy this right out of the blender, though I cannot in good conscience recommend it. You'd look more elegant & etiquette drinking it out of a canning jar, as I do. Possibly garnished with a lemon wedge, or even better, a slice of kiwi. And you'd seem more generous if you poured some into another canning jar, and shared. |
